WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –Down six with 2:24 left in regulation, the  Lycoming College men’s basketball team stormed back to send the game to overtime, but a tip-in by Jared Rappoport as time expired in the extra period lifted Albright College to an 83-81 MAC Commonwealth victory on Wednesday night, Nov. 28, at the Lamade Gymnasium.

The Warriors (4-2 overall, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) were down 81-79 in the overtime period before senior Darius James (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) knocked down two shots at the line to tie the game at 81 with 1:26 left. After both defenses came away with stops, the Lions (2-4 overall, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth), with 22 seconds remaining, held for the last shot. A missed layup fell off the rim and Rappoport got his fingers on it before the buzzer sounded.

James nearly had a double-double, finishing with 21 points and eight rebounds. FreshmanMarkanthony Fidelis (Largo, Md./DeMatha Catholic) dropped in his third 20-point game of the season, leading all scorers with 23 points, going 4-of-7 from three. Sophomore D’Yante Doughty (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) added 13 points and had a game-high six assists. Junior Devon Taylor (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) scored a career-high 11 points, going 3-of-5 from three and freshman D’Andre Edmond (Pflugerville, Texas/Pflugerville) had three blocks and five rebounds in his first start.

A 3-pointer from Doughty gave the Warriors their biggest lead of the second half, 50-40, five minutes into the half. The Lions used a 14-3 run to take their first lead in nearly 14 minutes, 54-53, with 11 minutes left in the period. Albright was able to build their lead to six with 2:24 to go, but six straight points from Fidelis, and a break-away layup by James, helped the Warriors erase the deficit and build a one-point lead with 18 seconds remaining. Lycoming tacked on a point to the lead after sophomore Darius Dangerfield (Abingdon, Md./Harford Teach) went 1-of-2 at the line. On the ensuing possession, the Lions’ Samuel Majekodunmi  drew a foul, and knocked down both foul shots to send the game into overtime.

After a back-and-fourth first half, that saw six ties and lead changes, the Warriors went into the break holding onto a 39-36 advantage. Fidelis, James and Taylor each hit a pair of triples to lead the Warriors in the period.

The Warriors forced 17 turnovers and shot 40 percent (12-of-30) from 3-point range while tying their season high in makes. The Lions went a perfect 11-of-11 from the foul line and Lycoming was 13-of-17.

The Lions were led by Rappoport, who finished with 15 points, and Majekodunmi, who  finished with a team-high 22 points. Delascio Dancy Jr. had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Warriors are back on the court on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 1, for a 1 p.m. start when they head to Owings Mills, Md., take on Stevenson in MAC Commonwealth action inside Owings Mills Gymnasium.
