The LHU men’s basketball team led by Cerruti rolled past Carlow in the Bald Eagles home opener.
LOCK HAVEN, Pa.- The Lock Haven University men’s basketball team (1-2) downed the Carlow University Celtics (1-7) 96-80 Monday night in Thomas Fieldhouse thanks to a 26 point showing from Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood).
After a competitive first half the Bald Eagles closed out the half on a 20-4 run to close the half and push their lead to 19. The Haven built up a 51-32 halftime lead and led by as many as 24 in the second half as LHU cruised to the team’s first win of the season, 96-80.
Cerruti’s 26 points led the Bald Eagles offensively. He shot an efficient 10-14 from the field, including 6-9 from beyond the arc, while adding five boards and two assists to complete his night.
Including Cerruti, six Bald Eagles finished in double figures. Christian Kelly (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) tallied 15. Jihad Barnes (Philadelphia/Philadelphia Electric Charter) and Jesse McPherson (Philadelphia/Archbishop Wood) both added 13. Jaylen Washington (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) totaled 11 and Marques Jackson (Philadelphia/Monsignor Bonner) rounded out the scoring chipping in with 10.
Highlighting the defense for the Haven was McPherson and Barnes. McPherson protected the rim all night long and finished with five blocks while Barnes snatched four steals from the Celtics.
Lock Haven finished an effective offensive night shooting 56 percent from the field and shared the ball well, recording 17 assists as a team. Washington led LHU with five assists.
The Bald Eagles will host Clarion on December 1st at 3 p.m. at the Thomas Fieldhouse.
