Lycoming Wrestling - Wesneski earns MAC Wrestler of the Week nod

Trevor Corl and Garrett Wesneski are both in the top 10 in the first preseason wrestling polls.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – After posting four wins for the Lycoming College wrestling team at the VBR Sports Southeast Duals, senior heavyweight Garrett Wesneski (Canton, Pa./Canton Area) has earned his second career Middle Atlantic Conference Wrestler of the Week award, the conference office in Annville, Pa., announced on Monday, Nov. 19.

Wesneski, ranked sixth in the nation by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, provided a pair of technical falls in Lycoming's two wins over Averett and Southern Virginia, and added decisions, one with a 3-0 win over Ferrum's Alveno Matthews, a contender in d3wrestle.com's rankings, and added a 6-3 win over Mount Union's Grant Martin, listed as honorable mention by d3wrestle.com.

Wesneski has started the season with a 7-1 record with a pin and three technical falls. The University of Maryland transfer is 45-5 in two seasons with the Warriors. He is 21-0 overall in dual meets. Wesneski also earned the conference’s wrestler of the week award on Nov. 6, 2017, after winning a tournament title at the Messiah Invitational to start his Lycoming career.

The Warriors get back on the mat on Friday, Dec. 7, when they head to a tri-match at Thiel College, facing Thiel at 3 p.m., and Penn State-Behrend at 5 p.m.
