BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Junior point guard Ky Mauras (Reading, Pa./Reading) of the Bloomsburg University men's basketball team has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. It marks the first weekly honor for Mauras in his collegiate career.
Mauras scored a career-high 28 points while posting seven rebounds and five assists in the Huskies' 80-79 overtime victory over Georgian Court in the season opener on Saturday afternoon at the Nelson Field House. Mauras scored 21 of his 28 points in the second half and finished 11-of-20 from the field. Bloomsburg trailed by two, 67-65, with 34 seconds left in regulation before Mauras drove to the basket and completed an old-fashioned three-point play to give the Huskies a 68-67 advantage. Then, in overtime, Mauras hit his only three-pointer of the game to give Bloomsburg a 74-71 lead - a lead that it would not relinquish. Later in the extra session, he hit a pair of foul shots with 18 seconds left in overtime to put the Huskies back up by three.
His seven first-half points came during a 15-2 run that helped erase an early 10-point deficit and gave Bloomsburg a 31-28 lead at the break.
In his first season with the Huskies a year ago, Mauras was second on the team in scoring at 13.7 points per game while leading the team in both assists (116) and steals (48). He was also second on the team with 38 three-pointers.
Bloomsburg will play its first road contest of the season on Tuesday, November 20, when it heads to Holy Family University. Start time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
