In 2021, a handful of politicians will wield power over one of the most consequential and overlooked aspects of our democracy: redrawing Pennsylvania’s political districts.
Pa General Assembly 107th Legislative District
PA House of Representatives District 107, which contains parts of Columbia, Montour and Northumberland counties, has been represented by Kurt Masser since 2011.
The 107th District contains Danville and the City of Shamokin. As of 2011, the region has a population of 64,693. The U.S. Census Bureau predicts a reduced population in each of the District’s three counties since the 2010 census. Less than 15% of persons in each county are estimated to be living in poverty. Further demographic information for each of the three counties can be found at census.gov.
The Susquehanna River and Interstate 80 stretch across the District, providing easy mobility through and within the region. District 107 is also home to part of Pennsylvania’s Weiser State Forest.
Knoebels Amusement Park, Rickett’s Glen National Natural Landmark, the burning borough of Centralia and Colombia County’s Renowned covered bridges draw tourists to the area.
The District has roots in Pennsylvania’s coal industry and is moved forward today by the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, as well as the manufacturing and agricultural industries.
