COGAN STATION - William D. Cowles, 72, of Cogan Station, died Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Rose View Center.
He was born in Troy on December 11, 1946, a son of Henry W. and Fannie E. (Barnes) Cowles.
Bill enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 27, 1966, and served with Headquarters Battery, 2nd Battalion, 10th Marine Division and was discharged as a Lance Corporal on Feb. 9, 1972. He continued his support of the Marine Corps and was a member of the Marine Corps League where he had served as a past Commandant.
He was employed as a truck driver for the former Moores Building Supplies for many years.
He enjoyed the outdoors, working in the garden, tinkering around the house and working on cars.
He is survived by a daughter, Fran Hort of Williamsport; his grandchildren, Michael and Maria, and five great- grandchildren; as well as six siblings: Bonnie Lutz (Harold) of Williamsport, Mary V. Williams (Randy Andrews) of Hughesville, Henry Cowles of Roaring Branch, Gary Cowles (Deanna) of Cogan Station, Jeffrey Cowles (Brenda) of Cogan Station, Nick Cowles (Donna) of Cogan Station, and many nieces and nephews.
A private family visitation was held. A funeral and burial in a National Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
