SWISSDALE - On December 30, 2019 Emmanuel and Louisa Rader Probst welcomed their youngest child, Richard C. Probst, back into the family fold. Also waiting were his brothers Newton, Earl and Hayes, all four of his sisters, Irene Probst, May Rogers, Jenny Haagen, and Myra Weber.

Richard made his presence known October 24, 1928 in the tiny village of Swissdale. As a farm boy, Richard learned the importance of hard work and that an education was important.

He graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1946. After serving a stint in the army, he entered into employment with Hammermill Paper Company where he remained until retirement.

During his early years he met a young woman, Joan E.Winner. Richard and Joan were married for 61 years until her passing on January 9, 2016.

Richard’s survivors include a special nephew, Dennis Weber, other nieces and nephews, his close friend, Larry Ferree, and all his many friends.

As the year’s progressed, Richard slowly lost his eyesight. But his hearing became his means of enjoying his surroundings. His love of music, attending the Community Band concerts or groups at the Triangle Park always brought a smile to his face. One great pleasure was meeting his fellow co-workers. Once he heard a name, it was like a computer releasing stored information. He couldn’t see a face, but he remembered everyone. He was also a past member of the Altoona Jaffa Shrine and Lafayette Lodge #199 F&AM in Lock Haven

He attended the Swissdale United Methodist Church, 974 Croak Hollow Road, Lock Haven. Richard had requested that memorial contributions could be made in his name to the Church.

Richard was a kind, gentle soul and appreciative of many things in life. He will be missed by his friends.

Funeral services for Richard C. Probst will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at the Swissdale United Methodist Church followed by full military honors. Officiating will be Pastor Jay Saldana of the Swissdale United Methodist Church. Family and friends will be received in the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC, 121 West Main St., Lock Haven.
