MILTON - Fred C. DeWire, 84 of Milton, and formerly of Hughesville, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on June 21, 2019. He was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Born on July 25, 1934. Fred was the son of the late Fred and Harriet DeWire. He graduated from Hughesville High School in 1952 and enlisted in the Navy in 1953 and attaining the rank of Machinist’s Mate 1st Class. Fred was hired at The Young Industries, Inc. in 1957 as an electrician. He retired in 2004 as Co-Owner, Executive VP, General Manager, and Chief Operating Officer.
Fred married L. Jane Lockard on October 1, 1960. They were married 58 years at the time of his passing. Together they enjoyed traveling with his family, fishing and boating on the St. Lawrence River, and sharing the many gifts that God had granted. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Fred lived out his faith in Jesus in many ways - he was an active member of the Watsontown Alliance Church, having served as an Elder for many years, He also attended Bible Study Fellowship and had been a discussion leader. Fred is preceded in death by his son, Kline A. DeWire (wife, Mary).
Surviving are his wife, Jane; two sisters, Nancy Sheets, and Carol Warren ( Donald); children, Laurie Staib (James), Matthew DeWire (Rebecca); grandchildren Bryan DeWire (wife, Sarah), Kline C. DeWire, and Margaret DeWire; great-grandchildren, Joy DeWire, Sean DeWire, Kathrine DeWire, and Lucy DeWire, as well as many nieces and nephews.
An open celebration of life memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, with a time of food and fellowship provided at Watsontown Alliance Church, 1165 Eighth Street Drive, Watsontown. A private family burial will be held at the family’s convenience.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the many people who visited, encouraged and supported Fred and his family during this time.
