A South Williamsport man faces criminal charges after allegedly leaving his 10-month old child unattended inside a vehicle at the Hughesville Uni-Mart parking lot, according to court record.

Abhishek Patel, of 953 South Market Street Suite 16, South Williamsport, reportedly “forgot about the baby” while playing pool at Lindauers, according to one witness’ statement.

Another witness said Patel left the child unattended for “approximately 20 minutes,” according to Williams’ affidavit.

Witnesses in the Uni-Mart parking lot reportedly opened the door to check on the infant’s safety. The child was “still in the car seat, awake and alert,” Williams wrote.

Emergency medical services cleared the infant and Lycoming County Children and Youth Services transported the infant to the mother, according to the affidavit.

Patel was charged with one third degree felony count of endangering welfare of children - parent/guardian commits offense, one count of second degree misdemeanor - recklessly endangering another person, and one summary count of leaving child unattended in vehicle.

Patel was confined to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bail.

He was formally arraigned before Lycoming County Judge Marc F Lovecchio on June 3, 2019.
