WILLIAMSPORT -- The Honorable Sharif Street, PA Senate District 3 and Vice Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, will give the keynote address at the annual Lycoming County Democratic Committee Spring Banquet on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Holiday Inn. A social hour and meet and Greet is set to begin at 5 p.m., with dinner following at 6 p.m.
Street began his public career as a community activist while attending law school at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also served as the President of the Penn Law Democrats. While practicing law for nearly two decades, Street was a passionate advocate for underserved communities. He did extensive work in affordable housing, and facilitated the creation of Philadelphia Green Communities, the first environmental education organization of its kind in a major U.S. city. Street is committed to improving healthcare and housing access, reforming our criminal justice system, and advocating for economic development.
Marc Friedenberg, candidate for the U.S. 12th Congressional District, will give an update on his campaign for the May 21 Special Election. Friendenberg is a consumer protection and healthcare advocacy attorney, who has pursued legal cases against the Wall Street banks that caused the 2008 recession. As an adjunct professor at Penn State University, Friedenberg specializes in teaching Cyber Law and Global Economy courses.
The Spring Banquet will also showcase Lycoming Democratic candidates for the May 21 Municipal Primary, including Rick Mirabito and Elliott Weiss for County Commissioner, and Derek Slaughter for Williamsport Mayor. Also speaking will be David Banks, Tiasha Machuga and Jon Mackey for Williamsport City Council, Milissa Augustine for Williamsport City Controller, Jeni Nash Harvey for County Prothonotary, and candidates for Borough, Township and School Director positions.
The Democratic Women’s Club will present their annual Kay Ertel Scholarship to an outstanding female public high school senior interested in public service and pursuing a liberal arts education.
