MONTGOMERY -- State Police in Montoursville released the name of the driver of a Dodge Journey that crashed into a Subaru Forester driven by Patricia A. Shultz, 49, of Muncy, while she was driving on Route 405 in Clinton Township Thursday morning. Shultz was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, Alec Thomas Barnes, 24, was driving a Dodge Journey east on Route 405 just east of Child's Lane around 12:20 a.m. June 22, 2017 behind Shultz's vehicle. He then rear ended Shultz's vehicle. Both vehicles came to rest in a field south of Route 405.
Shultz was wearing a seatbelt and airbags deployed, however she sustained major trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:20 a.m.
A gas pipeline was struck which required UGI to shut off the gas to the area prior to contact with the deceased and extrication following the crash reconstruction process. Route 405 was closed overnight and did not re-open until close to 10:30 a.m., according to notifications from PennDOT.
Police said Barnes was taken to Muncy Valley Hospital for a blood draw and charges will be filed pending blood alcohol content (BAC) results.
