Williamsport – A man with a protection from abuse order against him is facing assault charges after he pushed his way into a woman’s apartment last month and assaulted her, police said.
Curtis L. Benton, 56, of Williamsport, was charged with trespassing and several counts of simple assault.
Benton pushed his way into the woman’s apartment at the 700 block of W. Fourth Street just after noon on Sept. 21, 2019, according to the affidavit written by Officer Kitko of Williamsport Bureau of Police. He then entered the bathroom and wrapped a towel around the woman’s throat, causing her fall onto the floor. Benton also grabbed a hold of the woman’s arm and twisted them, causing redness to her wrist area, Kitko wrote. The woman told police she feared for her life.
According to the protection from abuse order, Benton is not to have contact with the woman. He was arraigned in front of District Magistrate Christian D. Frey and was remanded to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail. His case was waived for court.
