Old Lycoming Township, Pa. – A Philadelphia man was incarcerated again for an alleged robbery and assault just two days after he was released from prison. Harry J. Burley, 55, remains in Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Shortly after 9 a.m. on September 14, 2019, Burley stole a woman’s cell phone while she was inside a parked car at Williamsport Family Medical Center at the 2000 block of Lycoming Creek Road, according to Old Lycoming Township Police. When police arrived, the victim reportedly told them Burley forcefully took the phone and refused to return it. She called 911 and followed Burley down the road in an attempt to get her cell phone back.
Burley also allegedly struck the victim several times in the head and face in the parking lot of the office of District Magistrate William. C. Solomon at the 1900 block of Lycoming Creek Road.
When police located Burley, he was in possession of the woman’s cell phone. Upon searching Burley, police also found a small amount of marijuana.
Police said Burley was released from the Philadelphia Prison system on September 12, 2019. He is currently homeless.
Burley was arraigned in front of on call District Magistrate Gary A. Whiteman. He was charged with felony robbery, misdemeanor simple assault, theft and receiving stolen property as well as possession of a small amount of marijuana.
South Williamsport Borough Police and Pennsylvania State Police assisted at the scene.
