Veterans Day falls on November 11 this year, and several groups are getting ready to put on parades, concerts, and even a special pheasant hunt for veterans. Consider celebrating our heroes past and present at one of these or other events:
On Friday, Nov. 8, there will be a Re-Creation USA concert for veterans and their families at Bloomsburg High School auditorium featuring BHS alumnus Julie Horan. The concert will run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Also in Bloomsburg, the annual downtown Bloomsburg Veterans Day Parade will take place on Saturday, Nov. 9. The parade will assemble in the Geisinger Bloomsburg parking lot and step off at 10 a.m., moving down Main Street, turning at the square, and then making its way down Market Street. The parade will conclude at the Bloomsburg Fire Hall and there will be a short program and luncheon.
The annual Lycoming County Veterans Day Parade takes place on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Montoursville. The parade begins at Mill Street and goes east on Broad Street to Reading Lane.
Lock Haven University Choir and Central Mountain Middle School Choir will present a free concert at Price Performance Center celebrating Veterans Day on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m.
At Whispering Oaks Vineyard in Sunbury, there will be dinner and a concert of oldies by Memory Lane. This event takes place on Sunday, Nov. 10, with dinner served at 5 p.m. and the concert running from 6 to 9 p.m. Dinner tickets are $30 and must be purchased before November 6 at 5 p.m. Music-only tickets are $5 and may be purchased up to the day of the event. Veterans in attendance get their first drink free!
On Tuesday, Nov. 12, and Wednesday, Nov. 13, Pheasants Forever chapter 630 will host their third annual Veterans Day Pheasant Hunt at Delp’s Hunting Grounds in New Bethlehem. The registration period for this event has passed, but if you are or know of a veteran who might be interested in participating next year, keep Pheasants Forever #630 on your radar.
