A Jersey Shore man is accused of child rape, the Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police Department reported.

Tommy L. Hoffman, 20, allegedly engaged in a sex act with a seven year old in the Jersey Shore Borough on Dec. 27, 2019, according to a Feb. 4, 2020 affidavit by Justin Segura.

The child disclosed the alleged rape to a parent, who in turn reported it to police, the affidavit stated.

The incident allegedly occurred while the child's mother was at work and Hoffman was babysitting the child.

Officer Segura said that when he questioned Hoffman, he asked to take a "lie detector test."

A trooper from the Pennsylvania State Police Polygraph Unit administered the polygraph test on Feb. 4, 2020, which allegedly indicated Hoffman "showed signs of deception" when asked about sexual contact with the minor.

According to the affidavit, Hoffman began crying and admitted to performing a sex act on the minor but claimed he did so under duress, that he had been threatened to do it.

"Hoffman then became very upset and agitated and then asked for a public defender," Officer Segura wrote.

Hoffman was charged with one first degree felony count each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, statutory sexual assault, rape of a child, unlawful contact with minor - sex offenses; one third degree felony count of corruption of minors; one first degree misdemeanor count each of indecent assault - victim under 13 years of age, and indecent exposure; and one count second degree misdemeanor indecent assault less than 16 actor older by 4 years.

He was arraigned before District Judge Jon E. Kemp on Feb. 4, 2020, and  incarcerated at the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $90,000 straight bail.
