A 35-year-old Williamsport woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the headquarters of a German singing club.
Ex-employee Melissa B. Smith allegedly took approximately $4,689 from Gesang Verein Harmonia, 332 East Seventh Street, between March 1 and 12, police said.
According to Officer Nicholas T. Carrita, Smith entered the building during normal business hours, while people were present. She then concealed herself in a stairwell and waited for the club to close for the night.
"Smith was observed behind the bar, in the hallway, and in an office where money was kept in a cabinet," Carrita wrote.
Smith, who currently is on drug court and probation in Clinton County, gained entry to a money box within that cabinet, court records stated.
According to the affidavit, she entered the building on three separate occassions.
Smith was arrested on March 14 and charged with one count of first degree felony burglary, and one third degree felony count each of criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property.
She was arraigned by District Judge Jon E. Kemp on March 24 and incarcerated at the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $35,000 monetary bail.
