Allegiant Facebook post, June 18, 2019

Travelers in north central Pennsylvania have more air travel options beginning this October. Allegiant Air has announced new service in State College to Orlando/Sanford and Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fl.

According to the budget airline based in Las Vegas, nonstop flights will be added from State College to Orlando/Sanford on Wednesdays and Saturdays and Tampa/St. Pete on Fridays and Mondays.

“We’ve been in discussion with Allegiant for a long, long time, and we were close once or twice,” said Bryan Rodgers, University Park Airport Director. “The stars and planets just didn’t line up. But we continued to build the relationship, and continued to make them aware of what’s happening in the State College market. It was enough for Allegiant to launch service that was announced today.”

“With four flights per week, using an airbus 320, which is a 164-seat aircraft. That’s 656 seats per week if 100 percent occupied,” said Rodgers. “I hear all the time from people that they don’t want to drive long distances, that they would love local service. Now it’s just up to them to use it.”

Introductory rates of $69 each way may entice travelers to check out the new Allegiant service. Those fares are available now to book for October 2019 travel.
