MIFFLINBURG - A Mifflinburg man who is charged with raping a woman at a home in West Buffalo Township last week is free on $25,000 bail today.

Pennsylvania State Police at Milton arrested and charged 23-year-old Dakota Austin Cole of 511 N. Third Street, for allegedly raping the woman and brandishing a handgun. Cole was arraigned in front of District Justice Jeffrey Mensch on Monday and remanded to the Union County Jail on $25,000 bail, which was posted following his bail hearing held today.

According to police reports, the incident happened between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on April 11, 2019, when Cole and the woman were talking in a downstairs family room at her home. The victim told police Cole told her he had something for her in his vehicle. When he returned, he was reportedly holding a handgun and a magazine clip.

The victim reported she had managed to get the magazine away from Cole several times and eventually threw it out a window. When the victim tried to retreat to the bedroom, she told police, Cole followed her and closed the door, preventing her from leaving. The victim said Cole tied her hands behind her with a belt before raping her.

After the rape, the victim told police she was able to free herself and get to an upstairs bathroom and close the door, at which time she called 911. Cole was reportedly on the porch holding the handgun when Mifflinburg Police arrived on the scene. 

Following the incident, the victim was transported to Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, where a sexual assualt nurse examiner completed a sexual assault exam.

In addition to rape, Cole is facing felony charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault and strangulation, as well as misdemeanors charges of terroristic threats, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and two counts of indecent assault.

He also faces a summary charge of harassment.

A preliminary hearing for Cole is set for April 30, 2019, in front of District Justice Mensch.
