Dr. Laxman D. Satya - LHU prof wins Best Paper award

Dr. Laxman D. Satya, professor at Lock Haven University, recently received the Professor M. Athar Ali Memorial Prize Award for the Best Paper Presented at the 77th Session of the Indian History Congress held in the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram (India).

 

Lock Haven, Pa.  — Dr. Laxman D. Satya, professor at Lock Haven University, received the Professor M. Athar Ali Memorial Prize Award for the Best Paper Presented at the 77th Session of the Indian History Congress held earlier this year in the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram (India). Satya's paper was published in December, 2016.

 

His paper is titled, “The Political Economy of Famines in the 19th Century: A Case Study of Berar Deccan in a Comprehensive Perspective.” The award carries a certificate and cash prize, which was presented at the 79th session held earlier this year at Barkatullah University, Bhopal, India.

Satya is a professor in the Department of History, Political Science, International Studies and Foreign Languages at LHU, where he teaches courses on the history of Asia and world history. His area of specialization is modern south Asian history and his research focuses on the agrarian and ecological history of Vidarbha region of eastern Maharashtra and Northern Telangana.
