Williamsport - Expectations Women’s Center is now offering limited obstetrical ultrasound services free of charge at its Williamsport office. These ultrasounds are performed to determine viability, cardiac rhythm, and gestational age.

“Offering free ultrasound services to the Williamsport community has been our dream for years,” said Pam Burkholder, executive director. “We are excited to be able to offer our clients this valuable piece of education as they consider their pregnancy options.”

The Lewisburg office of Expectations Women’s Center began offering ultrasound services in the fall of 2017. Within the first year, the office saw a 106% increase in the number of individuals served.

“We offer pregnancy testing, but ultrasound is the only way to confirm pregnancy for our clients with 100% accuracy,” said Burkholder. “It also gives our clients the opportunity to learn if their pregnancy is viable and, if so, the gestational age – two pieces of information that are important as they navigate pregnancy decisions.”

Julia Redcay, DO, FACOG, of OB/GYN of Evangelical Community Hospital serves as the medical director for Expectations Women’s Center. She oversees all medical services offered at the Center, including reviewing all ultrasounds.

Betty Brubaker, RN, is the nurse manager on staff. She has 38 years of experience in nursing and has served as a volunteer client advocate for Expectations Women’s Center since the Lewisburg Office opened in 1991.

Hannah McDowell, RN, CNM, will serve as a volunteer nurse, assisting Brubaker in performing ultrasound scans. She brings 34 years of nursing experience and currently serves as a member of the board of directors.

The monies used to purchase the ultrasound machine were generously donated by the Knights of Columbus. Three local District 56 Knights of Columbus Councils – Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Ann’s, and St. Joseph the Worker – raised a total of $14,750 for Expectations Women’s Center, which was matched 100% by the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council.

Ultrasound services will be offered by appointment. To schedule an appointment, contact Expectations Women’s Center at 570-321-8240.
