What if your youngest son is actually your daughter?

Rosie, an emergency room doctor, and Penn, a writer, have five boys, but it turns out that Claude, the youngest, announces very early in life that he wants to be a girl. Until they pick up the family and move to Seattle, Claude/Poppy’s identity is well known, but in their new city they choose to keep it a secret.

Although Rosie and Penn want their child to grow up to be whoever they want to be, they fear that the world is not ready for Claude/Poppy. But their secret is a burden that eventually they cannot keep. Beautifully written, entertaining, and thought-provoking.
