The Korean immigrant family at the center this novel operates a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) center called Miracle Submarine, because of the distinctive shape of the chamber, in the town of Miracle Creek. Pak, the father, offers HBOT therapy for a variety of ailments including autism, brain injury, and infertility. When someone sets the chamber on fire and it explodes, killing two people, the mother of one of the autistic children in therapy is accused. This is a courtroom drama, a family story, and an immigrant story that is absorbing and well told.
