Altoona, Pa. -- Sheetz will temporarily suspend its self-service beverages and self-serve bakery items due to COVID-19 safety concerns, the company annouced in an email letter to customers from Travis Sheetz, President and Chief Operating Officer.

The changes went into effect this past Monday. All Sheetz stores suspended self-service coffee offerings, fountain beverages, fresh brewed tea, frozen drinks, and F’Real milkshakes. Customers who would like to purchase a cup of coffee should use the touch-screen order points or ask an employee for assistance who can then serve the coffee.

Sheetz’s letter pointed out that stores will continue to offer a wide variety of drinks in coolers as well as Made-to-Order premium beverages, such as coffee, smoothies, and more.

Sheetz also is temporarily suspending availability of self-serve bakery items such as doughnuts and muffins.

Loyalty points and rewards will not expire during this time period. The loyalty points and reward expiration dates have been extended until July 1.

The stores have been following guidelines from health organizations regarding enhanced routine daily cleaning procedures with a focus on high-touch surface areas such as gas pumps, order points, counter tops, checkout lines and door handles. The company also has reinforced and retrained all employees in proper hand washing and hygiene, according to Sheetz’s letter.

“We apologize for this inconvenience but please know we will continue to put your health first as we remain a vital resource for our communities. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and keep you informed of any additional adjustments we need to make to protect our customers and employees,” Sheetz said in his letter.
