Each year Muncy and Montgomery High School football players play to win... an old shoe.
According to Dick Dietz, while in the middle of sorting out old equipment to see what could be saved and reconditioned for the next season, he and George Sauers were asked to come up with a trophy the annual game against Montgomery. Dietz removed a single cleat from a pile of equipment and sarcastically suggested using it as the trophy. What was intended as a joke became a legend - the Muncy Jaycees had the cleat bronzed and mounted on a wooden plaque, and it remains the trophy to be passed back and forth to the winning school each year.
