Originally started by church groups wanting to create a safe environment for kids to go trick-or-treating, the trunk-or-treat phenomenon has taken off in recent years. This fun event typically takes place in a parking lot where adults deck out their car trunks with Halloween decorations and kids go from car to car to receive treats. These events are often part of a larger Halloween party, often including costume parades, pumpkin decorating, and other activities.

There are a number of Trunk-or-Treat events happening this Halloween season in our area, starting tonight:

On Friday, Oct. 18, 5-7 p.m., the Williamsport branch YMCA is hosting a “Pumpkin Patch in the Pool & Trunk-or-Treat” event for kids aged 2 to 12. This event includes pumpkin decorating, face painting, a costume contest, refreshments, and of course, the trunk-or-treat event in the parking lot. Admission for children of members is $1 per child, and non-members have a $5 admission price.
