The Paternostro Cancer Foundation recently donated 50 Harnessing Hope bags to Susquehanna Health Foundation to benefit patients at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Williamsport.

The Harnessing Hope bag project began in 2014, when the Paternostro family discussed items that Kass Paternostro, in memory of whom the foundation was created, liked to have nearby during chemotherapy treatments. Comfort items in the bags include things such as hand cream and snacks.

Since 2014, the Paternostro Cancer Foundation has provided 600 Harnessing Hopes bags to support newly diagnosed cancer patients. A notebook is included with each bag for patients and families to write down moments of laughter, conversations worth noting, information about medications, and ideas for the future. The bags are intended to provide a little comfort through the uncomfortable parts of the cancer journey.

If you would like to donate to the Harnessing Hope bag project, send a check to Paternostro Family Foundation, PO Box 1862, Williamsport, Pa., 17703 and mention Harnessing Hope Bags in the memo.
