Small businesses are gearing up for Small Business Saturday, a shopping “holiday” developed by American Express in 2010 to highlight the  “opportunity for shoppers who want to support the local small businesses that keep their towns unique — and their community members who run them,” according to American Express.

The Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center reports nearly one million small businesses in Pennsylvania, which employ nearly half of the state’s workforce.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, a 2018 survey found total reported spending among U.S. consumers who said they shopped at independent retailers and restaurants on the day reached a record high of an estimated $17.8 billion.

Williamsport Shop Small Passport Program

In recognition of Small Business Saturday, many local Williamsport businesses are participating in the 5th annual Shop Small Passport Program. This two-week-long event gives customers the opportunity to shop around Williamsport using the Shop Small Passport. 

Collect eight stamps from eight different local businesses to be entered into a raffle for a chance to win gift cards, jewelry, clothing, handbags, and other items donated by each participating small business. 

Five winners will be chosen at random to win a basket of prizes.

  • Starting November 30, bring your passport to any of our participating local business listed below.

  • Drop off your completed passport off during the  'Catch the Spirit' downtown celebration on Friday, December 13 or at any participating business.

  • Deadline to return completed passports is December 14.

  • The raffle winners will be announced on December 21.
