Pennsdale, Pa. – A long-time tenant at the Lycoming Mall is moving to the Golden Strip this spring.
Kay Jewelers placed signs in their store last week letting customers know that they are moving to the Loyal Plaza on E. Third Street in Loyalsock Township in April. A store employee confirmed the store will be moving into the former Payless ShoeSource at 1871 E. Third Street. The retail shore store closed in June 2019 after the company filed for bankruptcy.
The Lycoming Mall has been rapidly losing tenants in the past year. This is only the second month of 2020 and two stores, Hot Topic and Hollister, have closed their doors. The Kitchen Collection left in December. Several other stores, including The Children’s Place and Payless ShoeSource, also vacated last year. Some of the tenants have left due to bankruptcy and the rise in online shopping. Mall management issued a statement last month stating that they are not closing and that they are working with existing tenants.
In addition, the mall has been losing anchor stores beginning with the loss of Macy’s in 2017. Since then, J.C. Penney, Sears and Bon-Ton have left the mall. Those spaces, with the exception for the former Macy’s, are still empty. Burlington Coat Factory is the remaining anchor store.
Rumors have persisted that both Burlington and Dick’s Sporting Goods will be leaving the mall to move into the Kmart space on E. Third Street. Kmart’s last day at the Loyal Plaza is February. Management from both Burlington and Dick’s have denied that they are leaving the mall. It is unknown at this point what business will move into Kmart.
