Announcement from Gary R. Shields (former President & CEO of North Shore Railroad Company & Affiliates):
NORTHUMBERLAND -- Jebediah S. Stotter, North Shore Railroad Company & Affiliates Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, was unanimously appointed by the Susquehanna Union Railroad Company's Board of Directors to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective October 19, 2017.
Jeb graduated with honors from Susquehanna University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and a Minor in Sociology. He joined North Shore Railroad Company & Affiliates in 2001 and advanced through numerous positions until being promoted in 2005 to the Customer Service Manager. In 2010, he was promoted to the position of Director of Administration and Customer Service. In 2013, Jeb was appointed to the position of Vice President. In 2015, he was appointed Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
We initiated a succession plan four years ago when Jeb was appointed Vice President. Over the past two years, Jeb has administered the primary duties and responsibilities of CEO. It has been my honor to observe Jeb successfully and gracefully transition into this role.
In addition to his college degree, Jeb holds multiple certifications in railroad specific fields as well as employee management and leadership.
Jeb actively serves as a Director on multiple Boards, including: Susquehanna Union Railroad Company (Vice Chairman), Keystone State Railroad Association (Vice President), Sunbury's Revitalization, Inc. (President), and Susquehanna River Cleanup Project (Secretary). Additionally, he served on the Leadership Susquehanna Valley Board of Directors (2014-2016).
As President & CEO, Jeb will continue to be responsible for general supervision over the business and operations, including assigning corporate resources to the most productive utilization; prioritizing and disseminating the organization's philosophy of customer service to all levels of management and applying such philosophy to customer, employee, and organizational requirements; maintaining and monitoring staffing and equipment inventory; driving performance measures for the operation; and oversight over litigation matters. He will also continue to review performance metrics, costing models, and customer service levels, and based on his findings, make recommendations to respective management for improvement purposes, incorporating professional training where deemed appropriate. Jeb will also continue to be instrumental in the areas of strategic planning and ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for employees.
Further, he will work to develop North Shore Railroad Company & Affiliates' strategic plans and objectives and determine if they are being met; participate in attracting new business; make recommendations to ensure the company's resources are utilized as effectively as possible for each annual budget; routinely interact with elected officials regarding the rail industry, serving as a strong proponent of rail; and serve as the primary point of contact for the SEDA-COG Joint Rail Authority. All of North Shore Railroad Company & Affiliates' management team will report directly to Jeb.
After more than 48 years in the railroad and logistics industry, I am pleased to be retiring from a stellar company that I have left in very capable hands and for which I will have the pleasure of remaining the Chairman of the Board of Directors. As I often have said, I saved the best for last.
Gary R. Shields
