Dwain G. Bower, 85, of Avis, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017 at his home surrounded by his children.

Born April 21, 1932 in Elmira, NY, he was a son to the late John F. Bower Sr. and the former Dorothy A. Doane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandra J. (Stevenson) on September 26, 2005, they were united in marriage on September 16, 1952 in Winchester, VA; and two brothers, Gregg and Doane Bower.

Dwain was a graduate of Williamsport High School and attended Lycoming College studying business management. After college, he went to work for Uniroyal Tire Company. Later, he became a partner of Frey’s Tire Shop, and in 1984 he was the founder and owner of All Round Tire Company in Jersey Shore.

During the Korean War, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He was a life member of the NRA and JS Elks BPOE 1057, a member of the JS American Legion, and was also a proud 13 gallon donor to the American Red Cross.

Dwain loved spending time at his cottage on the lake in Canada with his family, friends and beloved dog, Sadie, along with many Canadian neighbors.

Surviving are his two sons, David D. “Cork” (Sherry) Bower of Rauchtown and Douglas D. (Ida) Bower of Avis; two daughters, Denise R. (Todd) Alexander of Avis and Debra J. (Kenneth) Buttorff of Nippenose Valley; five grandchildren, Shane T. McAlister, Jordan J. Bower, Mallorie R. Rell, Kayla J. Mahosky, and Kory B. Buttorff; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Jacquelin Jacopetti of Huntingdon Valley, PA; a brother, John F. Bower Jr. of Charlotte, NC; and a longtime companion and caregiver, Beverly Schweikle, of Williamsport.

Funeral services honoring the life of Dwain will be held 10 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2017 at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N Main St., Jersey Shore. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, June 15, 2017 at Welker Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Pennycoff will officiate. 

Burial will be held in the Woolrich Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard.
