Joseph H. Waltman

Joseph H. Waltman, 88, of Muncy, died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at the Muncy Valley Hospital Emergency Room.

Born August 25, 1923, in Muncy Creek Township, he was a son of the late Henry A. and Edna G. Hagenbuch Waltman. His wife of 65 years, the former Rebecca Bryan, preceded him in death on April 11, 2009.

Joseph was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Muncy and served on the Muncy School Board for many years. He was a founding member of Oaks Hunting Club and participated in 4H for many years. One of Joseph’s greatest joys in life was the family farm, which he worked his entire life.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas B. Waltman of Watsontown, Jeffery H. Waltman of Muncy and Bradley A. Waltman of North Las Vegas, Nevada; three daughters, Rebecca Jo (Michael) Fought of Hughesville, Heidi J. (Mike Kane) Waltman of Montoursville and Amy L. (James II) DeVore of Muncy; two sisters, Jane Voneida of Muncy and Dolly Winder of North Carolina; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Joseph was preceded in death by a grandson, John Joshua Waltman; two brothers, Wilbur and George Waltman; and three sisters, Rebecca Waltman, Lois Holtzworth and Betty Poust.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Cinda J. Brucker officiating. Burial will follow in Picture Rocks Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
