Robert L. Haefner

Robert L. Haefner, 88, of Montoursville, died Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Williamsport on December 8, 1923 a son of John A. and Elizabeth Hochreiter Haefner.
He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church where he had been very active in many of the church functions.
Robert had been employed at the former Wolf Furniture Store when he was younger, served as a police officer for the City of Williamsport for 20 years, worked in security at James V. Brown Library and had retired from Pennsylvania State Liquor Store at the Loyal Plaza in Loyalsock Twp.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 29, the longest life member of the Gesang Verein Harmonia, and an honorary life member of American Legion Garrett Cochran Post # 1.
A World War II U.S. Navy Veteran he was stationed aboard the USS Howorth, following combat service in the European and Pacific theaters he was stationed in Great Lakes, Ill.
His wife of 60 years, the former Jean M. Keller died June 8, 2008.
Surviving are three daughters Carol A. (Gregory) Haas of Bethlehem, Joan H. (John) Manning of Williamsport, Sharon K. (Norman) Meckley of Williamsport, a son Robert J. (Linda) Haefner of State College, four grandchildren Erica and Melissa Manning, Joshua and Christian Haefner, a brother John F. (Jane) Haefner of South Williamsport and a sister Mary McGee of Montoursville.
In addition to his wife and parents, two brothers William E. and Louis F. Haefner preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd. Williamsport, with his pastor, Msgr. Stephen D. McGough officiating.
There will be no visitation and burial with military honors will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions in Robert’s name may be made to a veterans organization of your choice or St. Boniface Catholic Church
