 Paul B. Shaffer Sr.

(March 13, 1918 - December 17, 2011)

Paul B. Shaffer Sr., 93, formerly of the 1400 block of Memorial Avenue, died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Manor Care South following an extended illness.

Born March 13, 1918 in Lewistown, he was the son of Reuel and Margaret Swartz Shaffer.

Paul’s first wife, the former Marion E. Barger, died October 23, 1969. His second wife, the former Evelyn E. Phillips, died June 5, 1994.

Paul was a city fireman, retiring in 1970. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid Penn State fan.

Surviving are sons, Paul B. (Joanne) Jr. of Tunkhannock and James C. (Barbara) of Hughesville; daughters, Marlene E. Harman of Linden and Nancy L. (James) Rupert of Williamsport; sisters, Lois Smith of Williamsport and Janet Denny of South Williamsport; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Paul was predeceased by a brother James W. and a sister, Betty Metzger.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Avenue with the Rev. Robin L. Baer officiating. There will be a visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Twin Hills Memorial Park.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
