Fred Sheriff

Fred Sheriff, 97, of Williamsport, died Thursday, December 15, 2011 at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital.

Born January 14, 1914 in Jersey Shore, he was the son of William and Eva (Probst) Sheriff.

He was a graduate of Jersey Shore High School. 

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II where he obtained the rank of Sgt. and was stationed at the Woodrow Wilson General Army Hospital. 

Fred had worked for over 40 years at Piper Aircraft. 

He was a 50 year member of the Moose Lodge Lock Haven and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at his family farm.   

Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Leona (Mears) Sheriff on April 3, 2007; four brothers, John, George, Robert, Richard Sheriff; and a sister Elizabeth Angier.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law George and Patti Sheriff of Williamsport, a grandson Jon Sheriff, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2011 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport, with The Rev. Kraig L. Faust officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.  Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Monday at Sanders.
