Anna Kathleen Bower

Anna Kathleen Bower, 87, of Hughesville, died Sunday, December 18, 2011, at the Gatehouse.

Born May 10, 1924, in Penn Township, Lycoming County, she was a daughter of the late Chalmer and Mary Gray Hill. She and her husband, David E. Bower, would have celebrated 67 years of marriage on February 7, 2012.

Kathleen attended Christ United Methodist Church, Hughesville. She was very active in the election process, serving as Judge of Elections for many years. Kathleen was also employed as a rural paper career for the Sun-Gazette newspaper for over 20 years. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing, gardening, crafts and playing bocce ball.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Richard L. (Patricia) Bower of Gore, Virginia and Jefferey L. (Cynthia) Bower of Hughesville; two daughters, Phyllis A. Bower of Urbana, Maryland and Debra E. Bower of Falls Church, Virginia; two sisters, Doris J. (Bruce) Ryskamp of Metamora, Michigan and Jean L. (Larry) Fry of Ocean Pines, Maryland; four grandchildren, John David Bower, Michael J. Bower, Amy K. Jenkins and Mary P. Burns; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, at Christ United Methodist Church, 148 S. Main St., Hughesville, with the Rev. G. Edward Corcelius officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions to Christ United Methodist Church.
