Richard L. Retorick, Sr.
(February 23, 1936 - October 31, 2011)
Richard L. (Dick) Retorick, Sr., 75, of 801 Weldon Street, Montoursville, died Monday, October 31, 2011 at his home after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Born February 23, 1936 in Williamsport, he was the son of George and Catherine Larison Retorick.
Dick and his wife, the former Carol A. Schweikart, observed their 54th wedding anniversary on February 16, 2011.
Dick was a member of the Community Baptist Church where he coordinated and organized the greeters. He was a former captain and member of the Citizens Hose Company, Jersey Shore.
Dick was a member of the Black Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, Lock Haven, President of the Billtown Squares, coordinated the local heart fund and cancer fund dances and loved camping and woodworking.
Dick was a train dispatcher for Conrail retiring in 1990. After that he worked as a substitute custodian for the Williamsport Area School District retiring in 2009.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Richard L. (Cheryl), Jr. of Penn Yan, NY; daughters, Krisann E. (David) Taylor and Lisa M. (Mike) Tinsley both of Lynchburg, VA and Sue A. (Jim) Henry of Carlsbad, CA: seven grandchildren; four step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
Dick was predeceased by a brother, George E. Retorick.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2011 at the church, 1853 State Route 87, Montoursville with the Rev. Lynn A. Wheeler officiating. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Ave. and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial will be at Jersey Shore Cemetery.
The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions may be made to the Church Building Fund, the Cancer Center at Divine Providence Hospital, 1100 Grampian Blvd., the SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, both Williamsport, PA 17701 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
