Eileen Mae Berger

Eileen Mae Berger, 83, of Hughesville, died Friday, October 21, 2011, at Wolf Run Village, Hughesville.

Born December 31, 1927, in Montgomery, she was a daughter of the late Carl A. and Dorothy Soloman Berger. She and her husband, Pastor Robert R. Berger, celebrated 56 years of marriage on October 13, 2011.

Eileen attended Wetzel Grade School and graduated from Watsontown High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Bucknell University and a Master of Science degree from Temple University. Following her graduation from college, Eileen was employed at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, Michigan, assisting the state coroner. She was later employed and retired from the Muncy Valley Hospital after having worked there for 25 years.

While a member of the Hughesville Baptist Church, Hughesville, Eileen was active as a Deaconess, President of the American Baptist Women, a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir. She also had a passion for writing. In addition to publishing several books, Eileen was a founding member of the West Branch Christian Writers Fellowship and a member and teacher in the St. David Christian Writers Fellowship.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Victoria E. (Conrad) Mailleue of Muncy; two sons, Pastor James R. (Sarah) Berger of Cape May, N.J. and William C. (Leslie) Berger of Millville; two brothers, James A. Berger of Bloomsburg and Paul Berger of McEwensville; and seven grandchildren, Nathanael, Isaac and Samuel Mailleue and Karl, MacKenzie, Katherine and Dorothy Berger.

In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Swartz and Lois Swartz.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Hughesville Baptist Church, 37 N. Third St., Hughesville with the Rev. Thomas M. Brokaw and Pastor James R. Berger officiating. Burial will be held privately in the White Deer Valley Baptist Church Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions to the Hughesville Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 37 N. Third St., Hughesville, PA 17737.
