Joyce E. Perritt Rood

Joyce E. Perritt Rood, 89, of Unityville, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Valley View Nursing Center.

Born January 27, 1922, in Montoursville, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Harriet (Wilt) Foster.

Joyce was a dedicated wife and mother who enjoyed reading, cooking, and baking. She was a member of Franklin Bethel United Methodist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 10 years, C. Kenneth Rood, are three sons, Richard G. Perritt of Jamesville, NY, Raymond H. Perritt of Picture Rocks and John C. Perritt of Unityville; a daughter, Barbara J. Whitmoyer of Hughesville; a brother, Allen Foster of Williamsport; two sisters, Alice Fuller of Montgomery and Patricia Hanner of Montoursville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband of 54 years, Harry M. “Dick” Perritt, who died January 28, 1998.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. James R. Sunderland Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery, Unityville. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Due to the recent flooding, access to the funeral home will be made by turning onto North Fifth Street and making an immediate right onto Hunsinger Alley at the rear of the funeral home.
