Betty Arlene Moore Askey

Betty Arlene Moore Askey, 91, died peacefully on October 3, 2011, at Teresian House in Albany, NY, with her daughter at her side.
Born in Williamsport, March 12, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Buford Otey Moore and Eleanor Louise Powell Moore.
Betty was predeceased by her dear husband of 65 years, William Hartman Askey, Esq., a local attorney and U.S. Magistrate Judge, in 2008.
With the exception of the period during her husband’s military service and legal education, she spent most of her life in Williamsport. She was a natural leader and served the community in a number of civic organizations including the YWCA, the Community Concert Association, the Friends of James V. Brown Library, and the Woman’s Club.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years and a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church where she served on the Vestry. She graduated from Williamsport High School and Lycoming College. She moved to the Albany, NY, area in 2009 to be near her family.
Surviving are her daughter Elizabeth Powell Askey and her husband Richard James Tyler and two granddaughters Olivia Moore Tyler and Madeleine Marguerite Tyler, all of Slingerlands, NY.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2011, at the Christ Episcopal Church, East Fourth and Mulberry Streets, with Canon Paul C. Donecker officiating. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Knight-Confer’s, 1914 Memorial Avenue.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the charity of the donor’s choice.
