Nellie A. Grieco, 100, of Packer St. Williamsport died on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at the Williamsport Home.
The first child of the late Carmen and Ralphela Capello Caruso, she was born August 24, 1911 in Lock Haven.
She was the wife of Charles P. Grieco, Sr. who preceded her on May 27, 1994. They were married in St. Agnes Church in Lock Haven on Oct. 26, 1935 and celebrated 58 years of marriage.
She attended Lock Haven Catholic schools and was employed as a bookkeeper before retiring to raise her family.
Nellie was a member of St Boniface Church since 1955. She was a lifetime member of St. Leo’s Court No. 356 of Catholic Daughters of America, and Sons of Italy Lodge No. 286 in Ridgeway, PA. Nellie belonged to the Lycoming County Council of Republic Women and chaired committees.
Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, and oil painting. Some of her artwork hangs in public buildings, private offices, and homes locally and in other states. Nellie was known for her excellent cooking and baking abilities and loved to entertain family and friends by serving her Italian specialties.
Surviving is a son Charles P. (Bonnie) Grieco, Jr of Lenexa, KS; a sister, Anna Genua of Lock Haven; an aunt, Emma Caskey of Woolrich; a son-in–law , Steven Welteroth of Williamsport; five grandsons: Charles P. Grieco III, and Mark Grieco of Olathe, KS, Michael (Mihn) Grieco of Lenexa, KS, Adam and Patrick Welteroth of Williamsport; four great-grandchildren: Alicia and Paul Grieco of Olathe, KS, Nicholas and Sophia Grieco of Lenexa, KS.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Reba G. Welteroth, three brothers, John, Frank, and Angelo Caruso; three sisters, Micholina (Mickey) Fiedler, Mary Mayes Kellerman, and Rose Caruso, an aunt, Betty Andrus, and an infant daughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at St Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd. Friends may call Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport, Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
Interment will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery.
