William L. Aunkst, 76, of 408 S. Washington St., Muncy, died Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Gatehouse, Williamsport
Born Nov. 6, 1933 in Turbotville, he was the son of the late William and Hanna (Poust) Aunkst.
His wife of 50 years, the former Marjorie Young, died Sept. 3, 2004.
A 1952 graduate of the Hughesville High School, he entered the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. After his discharge from the Navy he worked as a machine operator for the former Sprout-Bauer, now Andritz, and retired there in 1993 after a career of 41 years.
He was a member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, Muncy, Edward Smith Post No. 3428 V.F.W., Muncy Lodge No. 299 F. &A.M. and the Williamsport Consistory.
Bill was an old car enthusiast and could be observed occasionally driving around town as well as in parades in his 1959 Ford station wagon. He was also a member of the Susquehannock and Shikellamy Car Clubs.
Surviving are a son Brian D. and his wife Kim of Morrison, Co; a daughter Holly A. of Muncy; three grandchildren, Lisa (Bob) Artley, Andrew Aunkst and Lauren Aunkst; three great grandchildren, Byron, Tashia and Tyler Artley; and a special friend, Joyce Pfefferkorn of Muncy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy. Officiating will be his pastor Rev. Dr. Donald P. Edwards. Burial with full military honors will follow in Muncy Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, and from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday. A Masonic service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions be made to either Susquehanna Hospice or The Gatehouse, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701. Please designate Hospice or Gatehouse.
