Obit: Robert Joseph Engel
Robert Joseph Engel, 86, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully at Valley View Nursing Center on Tuesday March 14, 2017.
He was born Aug. 1, 1930, in South Williamsport, the son of Lawrence M. Engel Sr. and Beatrice Musheno Engel. He was an active member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the Holy Name Society.
Bob was a 1948 graduate of Williamsport High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He later worked as an electrician for local 812 from 1955 to 1992. He was a 61 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, motorcycling, exploring with his metal detector and tinkering in his garage on various projects.
Bob was predeceased by wives, the former Shirley A. Stoner, who he married in 1956, the former Brenda L. Burrows, who he married in 2013, and brothers Lawrence Engel and James Engel.
Bob is survived by a daughter Debra Cocrane (Richard), of Smith Mountain Lake, Va.; a son, Michael of Waterville; stepson, Donald Waldman (Laura), of Montoursville; grandchildren, Alexandra, Timothy (Chrissy), Andrew and Rebekah; stepgrandson, Adam; stepgrandaughter, Kelsey; great-granddaughter, Annabelle; sisters, Mary Urbano, of Williamsport, and Sister Rita Ann, of Holy Family Convent, Danville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church 702 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 17 with the Rev Michael S. McCormick as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Wildwood Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday March 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the caring staff at Valley View Nursing Center and to the Susquehanna Health Home and Hospice nurses who cared for Bob.
