Fatal Accident on West Fourth St., Wmspt Saturday night

From the Williamsport Bureau of Police 3/23/2014:

  The Williamsport Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred in the 500 block of west Fourth St, at approximately 2316 hours on Saturday March 22nd.  A local man was killed when the green Ford Explorer that he was driving left the roadway striking a tree head on just prior to Locust St.  

    The man was reported to have been attempting to pass another vehicle described as being a maroon PT cruiser on the right as it was traveling in the northernmost lane, when the vehicle he was driving slightly left the roadway striking the tree.  A female passenger in the man’s vehicle was life flighted to Geisenger medical center for treatment of severe injuries.

    Police are looking for the maroon PT cruiser which is believed to have been involved in this incident.  Witnesses reported seeing both vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to the accident. It is believed that the drivers of both vehicles may have been involved in some type of ongoing incident just prior to the accident.  Anyone with information regarding the PT cruiser or the incident is asked to report the information to the Williamsport Police at (570)327-7560 or (570)327-7529.

Update Sunday 1:15 PM 

We've received word from Lycoming County Coroner  that the deceased was Robert Walker 58 years, from Williamsport, he was not wearing a seatbealt at the time of the crash.
