Police report various incidents
February 27, 2014
Pennsylvania State Police Montoursville reported the following incidents:
Dec. 13 to Feb. 20, Police reported that unknown actors broke into two different cabins on Opp Lane and State Route 442. A total of 6 firearms and a coin collection were taken from the cabins. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact PSP Montoursville at 570-368-5700.
Jan. 1 to Feb. 8, Police reported that A 21-year-old Muncy man removed a PA Reg plate and drove with it on. The vehicle was subsequently stopped by a local department. The plate was recovered. No charges have been filed.
8:33 p.m. Jan. 20, Police reported that a traffic stop was performed on Clifford Booth, 50, of South Williamsport, for swerving. Booth was found to be under the influence of prescription medications and was charged with DUI.
Jan. 30 to Feb. 20, Police reported that an actor forced entry into the residence of Gerald Greenley, 79, of Milton. Once inside, the actor stole numerous items, including furniture, copper pipes and silverware. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
1:30 p.m. Feb. 12, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Ashok Patel, 43, of Bloomsburg, and a vehicle driven by Stephen Smisl, 62, of Genesee, were stopped at a red light on Broad Street when a vehicle driven by Alexis Haag, 20, of Williamsport, pressed the gas pedal instead of the break pedal as it approched the two stopped vehicles. Haag did not stop the vehicle in time and struck the rear end of Patel's vehicle, pushing it into Smisl's vehicle.
6:57 a.m. Feb. 17, Police reported that a call was placed to 911 for a Steven Miller, 27, overdosing on heroin. When medical personnel arrived on scene, Miller was given Narcan and was trasported to Williamsport ER. While at the scene, Miller's girlfriend picked up a pair of gray sweatpants that Miller was wearing earlier in the morning and she pulled out a cut down drinking straw, two empty blue glassine bags marked "New York" and two clear mini plastic bags from one of the front pockets. Miller was charged with having drug paraphernalia.
Feb. 20 to Feb. 21, Police reported that an actor forcefully entered the Muncy residence of Chet Reed and removed a grandfather clock. The investigation is ongoing.
11:34 p.m. Feb. 21, Police reported that a crash occurred as a Suzuki Grand Vitara driven by Zachary Hanner, 25, of Montoursville, was traveling east on Quaker State Road in Fairfield Township when he lost control of the vehicle due to icy conditions. The vehicle traveled off of the westbound shoulder and struck an embankment. The vehicle overturned and came to rest on its passenger side.
3:36 a.m. Feb. 22, Police reported that a crash occurred as a Toyata Yaris driven by Cody Harriman, 23, of Hughesville, was traveling on State Route 118 going too fast for th icy road conditions. Harriman lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a left curve in the road and crossed into the left lane of travel and exited the roadway, impacting and embankment. The vehicle rolled over on to its roof. No injuries were reported with this crash.
6:30 p.m. Feb. 22, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Matthew Bennett, 29, of Trout Run, was traveling north on Route 14 when it traveled out of its lane and across the south bound lane of travel, striking an embankment. The vehicle continued in a north bound diretion and the front of the vehicle struck the embankment a second time. The vehicle continued its path of travel at which point Bennett brought it to a stop and parked it in the Marsh Hill Market. Bennett then fled the crash scene by obtaining a ride from another person without notifying law enforcement as required.
3:43 a.m. Feb. 23, Police reported that a crash occurred when a Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Mark Steinbacher, 19, of Williamsport, was traveling east on State Route 2014 in the left lane and a Honda Civic driven by Marissa Biber, 21, of Lock Haven, was traveling in the right hand lane. Steinbacher's vehicle attempted to make a right hand turn from the left lane and struck Biber's Civic.
7:23 a.m. Feb. 23, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Samantha Eck, 20, Jersey Shore was traveling north in the right lane of State Route 220 when the vehicle traveled on a patch of ice and slid off the roadway, impacting a guard rail. The impact caused the vehicle to roll over the guard rail and rol an unknown number of times down an embankment. Eck sustained a minor injury and was transported to Williamsport Hospital.
3:52 p.m. Feb. 23, Police reported that a crash occurred as a Ford Focus driven by William Hopkins, 17, of Renovo, was traveling west on State Route 220 in the right lane and a Dodge Ram 4500 driven by Raul Rojas, 60, of Denton, TX, was traveling south on State Route 287 attempting to make a left turn onto State Route 220. Hopkins failed to stop for a red signal and the Focus struck the driver's side of the Ram 4500.
6 p.m. Feb. 23, Police reported that Gene Rinker, 56, of Williamsport, lost his wallet at the Econolodge. Whe Rinker found his walled, $50 of US currency and a Woodlands Bank debit card were missing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact PSP Montoursville at 570-368-5700.
8:52 a.m. Feb. 24, Police reported that a crash occurred as a Toyota Tacoma driven by David Case, 62, of Savona, NY, was traveling east on I-180 in the area of exit 15. The Tacoma traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a guardrail.
2:39 p.m. Feb. 24, Police reported that two unidentified females stole a purse left unattended in the E. Third Street McDonald's parking lot belonging to Mary Woodward, 85, of Montoursville. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.
12:09 a.m. Feb. 25, Police reported that a crash occurred as a Volkswagen Passat driven by Ryan Baker, 21, of Montoursville, was traveling south on Miller Avenue when Baker failed to steer clear of a Ford Windstar which was legally parked on the west berm of the street. According to police, Baker had been consuming alcohol and was transported to the Williamsport Hospital for a blood test. DUI charges are pending blood results.
8 p.m. Feb. 27, Police reported that a crash occurred as a Volkswagen Passat driven by an unknown operator was traveling west on Blair Street while a vehicle belonging to Samuel Caldwell Jr., 68, of Williamsport, was parked legally on the north side of the roadway and was unoccupied. The Passat struck Caldwell's car in the left rear corner and side-swiped the vehicle along its left side and then fled the scene. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Police.
