Police report various crashes
December 21, 2013
The following crashes were reported by Pennsylvania State Police Montoursville:
11:30 p.m. Dec. 6, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Andrew Zoka, 22, was attempting to turn left onto River Ave. from Washington Blvd. Zoka's vehicled turned too wide and traveled off the roadway, striking the traffic light pole. The vehicle then traveled onto River Ave. where it came to final rest, facing north. The vehicle was towed but Zoka was uninjured. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.
9:46 a.m. Dec. 9, Police reported that a crash occurred on Gap Road in the 400 block when a vehicle driven by Penny Sponenberg, 50, of Allenwood, was traveling east on a straight stretche that was partially covered with some slush. The vehicle traveled north east across the opposing travel lane where it then traveled off the roadway into the north shoulder. The vehicle struck a utility pole with its passenger side front end casuing the pole to split in half. The vehicle then pulled back onto the roadway and pulled off onto the south should facing east bound. Sponenberg was not injured.
10:54 a.m. Dec. 9, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Mark Potemra, 38, of Williamsport, was traveling west on State Route 973. At the intersection with St. Michael's Road, Potemra's vehicle turned right to continue west on State Route 973. The driver side of Potemra's vehicle's plow struck the driver side rear of a vehicle driven by Teresa Hicks, 53, of Williamsport, which was stopped in the right lane of State Route 973 east. No one was injured.
7:20 a.m. Dec. 12, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Patrick Confer, 32, of Montgomery was traveling east on Brouse Road when Confer fell asleep while operating the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a utility pole, then continued in an east bound direction down an embankment, striking several trees before coming to final rest. Confer was not injured and will be cited for careless driving.
2:26 p.m. Dec. 13, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Cindy Pardee, 42, of Montoursville, was traveling north in the right lane of Northway Road. A vehicle driven by Sheree Speicher, 31, of Williamsport, was traveling northbound as wel and slowed in the lane of travel to turn left into a private drive. Before Speicher's vehicle could complete the turn, Pardee's vehicle struck it from behind. Speicher and passenger Corey Oliver, 21, of Williamsport, were transported to Williamsport Hospital ER for treatment of injuries. Pardee was cited for the incident.
6:36 p.m. Dec. 13, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Denise Rice, 40, of Cedar Run, was traveling north on State Route 44. At that time, a vehicle driven by Esther Haugh, 81, of Jersey Shore, was exiting the parking lot of the Venture Inn in an attempt to turn left and continue south on State Route 44. Haugh's vehicle pulled directly into the path of Rice's vehicle, causing Rice's vehicle to strike the driver's side of Haugh's vehicle. Haugh will be cited for a traffic violation.
9:01 p.m. Dec. 13, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Marvin Herr, 19, of Madisonburg, was traveling south on State Route 220 and a vehicle driven by David Fuller, 80, of Jersey Shore was traveling north, attempting to turn left onto State Route 287. At that time, Fuller's vehicle turned directly into the path of Herr's vehicle. As a result, Herr's vehicle struck the front of Fuller's vehicle. Fuller will be cited for a violation of traffic code.
10:55 p.m. Dec. 15, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Terry Massey, 49, of Montgomery was traveling north bound on State Route 405 when exited the south shoulder of the roadway and lost control, impacting a snow bank. Massey's vehicle re-entered the roadway and Massey attempted to regain control of the vehicle. The vehicle then rolled onto the driver's side and slid on its side for approximately 115 feet on State Route 405. A vehicle driven by Georgann Burkhart, 56, of Unityville, was traveling south on State Route 405 when Burkhart observed Massey's vehicle and swerved onto the north berm to avoid contact wtih Massey's vehicle. The vehicles collided on the north berm and Massey's vehicle rolled ove the roof of Burkhart's vehcle. Massey's vehicle continued sliding on its side for approximately 294 feet before coming to a position of final rest approximately 5 feet from the fog line on the south shoulder of the roadway. Burkhart's vehicle came to final rest approximately 15 feet off the north shoulder of the roadway, approximately 25 feet west of the point of initial impact. Burkhart sustained moderate injuries and was treated on scene. Massey was uninjured.
7:04 a.m. Dec. 17, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Richard Jackson, 27, of Canandaigua, NY., was traveling north bound in the right lane of Route 15 when the vehicle started to rotate in a clockwise direction and traveled off the west shoulder of the road. Initial impact occurred as the front left of the vehicle struck an embankment. The second impact occurred as the vehicle continued to rotate clockwise and struck the embankment with the driver's side. Jackson will be cited for traffic violations of registration less than 60 days and driving vehicle at safe speed.
10:36 a.m. Dec. 17, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Debra Moon, 50, of Jersey Shore, was traveling north on State Route 15 in the right lane and a vehicle driven by Michael Brady, 44, of Winston Salem, NC., was traveling in the north bound in the left lane. Moon's vehicle began to rotate counter clockwise and crossed into the other lane. Initial impact occurred when the front left of Moon's vehicle struck the front right of Brady's vehicle. Moon received a traffic warning for improper lane change. No one was injured.
5:06 p.m. Dec. 17, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Abigail Myers, 25, of Canton, was traveling northbound on Northway Road. The veihcle traveled off the west side of the roadway and over-turned down an embankment. The vehicle came to a position of final rest at the bottom of the embankment on its roof. Myers was not injured.
6:07 p.m. Dec. 17, Police reported a crash occurred on State Route 220 as a vehicle driven by Chastity Harkness, 38, of Rome, Pa., was negotiating a right hand curve. The vehicle drifted off the right hand side of the roadway and its right tires got pulled into the deeper snow along the roadside. The vehicle struck a telephone pole with its right front end, then struck a mailbox, coming to final rest off the right hand side of te roadway. Harkness was cited for driving a vehicle not meant for roadways.
6:30 p.m. Dec. 17, Police reported that a crash occurred as a vehicle driven by Carolyn Loreman, 71, of Williamsport, was traveling south on Northway Road. A vehicle driven by Timothy Bair, 57, of Williamsport, was stopped at a red traffic signal facing west at the intersection of Shiffler Ave. and Northway Road. Bair's vehicle responded to a green traffic signal and proceeded into the intersection with intent of continuing west bound. Loreman's vehicle failed to stop for a red traffic signal and proceeded into the intersection with the intent of continuing south, and struck Bair's vehicle. No one was injured. Loreman was cited appropriately.
