December 11, 2013

Pennsylvania State Police Department, Montoursville, reported that Camille Bomboy, 18, was attacked by a black bear while hunting at 4 p.m. Dec. 9 on her family's farm at 7786 Jacksonville Road, Mill Hal.

Police say she was "driving" deer with a large hunting party when she observed three black bear cubs run past her and turned to see a large black bear charging her. The bear knocked Bomboy to the ground and began to bite her. Bomboy's stepfather, Mike Courter, witnessed the attack and was able to scare the bear off.

Bomboy suffered multiple deep tissue bites to her arms and shoulders and a deep laceration to her head. She was transported to Lock Haven Hospital and later transferred to Geisinger Medical Center where she underwent surgery.

Pennsylvania Game Commission officers are investigating the incident.
