South Williamsport Police Department received a report of suspicious circumstances late last month in which a male in a vehicle was alleged to have offered candy to a child and offered to give the child a ride in his vehicle. The description of the subject was an older white male, heavier build, unknown hair color wearing a grey or white dirty shirt and having a raspy voice. The vehicle was described as a white van with tinted windows. This appears to be an isolated incident.
We have also received two recent reports from concerned parents. One was of a white male driver who exited a white colored van in the areas of a bus stop. The other report involved an older white male that gave pencils to children at a bus stop. In both cases, there was no report that the subject tried to lure the child or to commit any other criminal acts. None the less, South Williamsport Police have increased patrols of the school bus stops and school zones.
Parents are encouraged to be mindful of these reports, to keep an eye out for any suspicious persons approaching or stopping at or near bus stops, and to call 911 immediately if they do observe the suspicious activity. Parents should also make sure their children know to report any suspicious activity to them, the bus driver or school immediately. Source: South Williamsport Police Dept.
