Man Struck by Gunfire in Williamsport - The Williamsport Bureau of Police were dispatched to a shooting that occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12. The shooting occurred in Stinson Alley near Sixth Avenue. Police confirm at this time that one male victim, 39, was struck by gunfire and was treated for his injuries at the Williasmprot Regional Medical Center and ater Life-Flighted to a trauma center. He is expected to survive his injuries, authorities say, declining to identify him this early in the investigation
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are interviewing potential witnesses near the scene. Several individuals called the Lycoming County 911 Center reporting hearing multiple shots. The gunfire came on the heels of a heated verbal alteraction between the victim and group of people as they were walking. Authorities do not believe at this time that the shooting was a random act and it is likely that the victim knew those in the group. Officers first to arrive initially had difficulty securing the scene due to a crowd of uncooperative witnesses who refused to provide information. Forensic evidence was collected along with other potential physical evidence which is being evaluated for relevance.
A male was observed fleeing the area on foot by responding officers, and a ground search of that immediate area failed to locate him. It is unknown at this time if he was involved in the shooting. No description of the shooter(s) is available at this time. The investigation continues.
