Devitt Camp Road Bridge to get Much-Needed Upgrade
Montoursville - A much-needed upgrade will take place as PennDOT rehabilitates an aging bridge on Route 1012 (Devitt Camp Road) in Gregg Township, Union County.
The existing bridge over White Deer Hole Creek, just south of Route 44, was built in 1950 and is classified as structurally deficient.
Starting March 26, Devitt Camp Road will be closed to traffic between Route 44 and South Creek Road for several months while the rehabilitation takes place.
Until work is completed, a detour will follow Routes 44 and 15.
The contract awarded to Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. includes removal of the existing deck, placement of new beams and a new deck and parapets.
The modernized bridge is expected to be opened to traffic by the end of June.
When the work is completed, the bridge should not have to be closed for at least 50 years. Although routine bridge maintenance will take place in that time period, any bridge closure or restriction would be minimal, barring any unforeseen events.
Hawbaker replaced another bridge on Devitt Camp Road as part of this $1.8 million contract last year.
