Route 973 Bridge at Perryville Being Posted

January 9, 2012

Montoursville - Additional deterioration resulting from advanced age is prompting PennDOT to place a weight restriction on the green truss carrying Route 973 over Lycoming Creek near Perryville.

The bridge, just east of Route 15 in Lycoming Township, Lycoming County is being posted with a 35-ton limit. In addition, the bridge is already limited to one truck crossing at a time.

Recently, a hole opened up in the deck of the bridge. A PennDOT maintenance crew has temporarily plated the hole and is scheduled to make repairs.

The bridge is scheduled for a major rehabilitation project with detour in 2012. Work, which will include a deck replacement and truss section repairs, is expected to begin in the spring.

The 35-ton posting will remain in effect until the project begins.
